Ashanti Region LGWU Condemns CLOGSAG Action

The Ashanti Regional Industrial Relations Officer (IRO) of the Local Government Workers Union (LGWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Mr. Frederick F.A. Aboah, has condemned the registration of workers of district assemblies by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG).“CLOGSAG has no power to decide for the workers at the MMDAs,” he said. Mr. Aboah said this in an interview and implored workers of assemblies to be committed with the Local Government Workers Union (LGWU).

He appealed to them to rally behind the in-house union (the LGWU) which is currently working tirelessly on the condition of service for its members.

The IRO called on the Controller and Accountant General not to make any monthly deduction of dues for the CLOGSAG in respect of any staff member of the MMDAs.On November 30, last year, the LGWU issued a communiqué after the annual meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) held at Tema in the Greater Accra Region, which called on the Local Government Service to take swift Action against CLOGSAG for what it described as “illegal recruitment” of members of the CLOGSAG.

In the communiqué jointly signed by the General Secretary, Mr. Joe Boahen, and the National Chairman, Mr. Stephen Abagrey, the LGWU alleged that CLOGSAG had carried out a head count of staff of the MMDAs, including unsuspecting members of the LGWU, with the view to enlisting them as members of the CLOGSAG.
