Students from the Department of Political Science, University of Ghana, visited the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to gain practical insight into public sector compensation management.
The visit, according to Dr Apkero Agbevade, a Senior Lecturer who led the delegation, aimed to expose students to the Commission’s operational dynamics and improve their understanding of Ghana’s public sector compensation systems.
During the visit, students were taken through operations of four key technical directorates of the Commission: Salary Administration; Grievance and Negotiations; Research, Monitoring and Evaluation; and Productivity and Performance-Based Rewards.
They were provided with first-hand knowledge of the Commission’s mandate, processes, and efforts to ensure fairness, equity, and productivity in public sector pay. They were also briefed on the Commission’s ongoing transition to an Independent Emoluments Commission (IEC).
The team leader appreciated the opportunity, noting it would enhance students’ academic and professional development.
He added that practical exposure bridges the gap between theoretical learning and real-life application, particularly in public sector compensation management.
This study tour is the fourth by students of the department to the Commission in the past three years as part of efforts to equip postgraduate students with industry experience.
