GOVERNMENT RESOLVES CETAG MIGRATION ISSUE, URGES TEACHERS TO CALL OFF STRIKE

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has announced that the government has resolved the outstanding issue of migrating the staff of the Colleges of Education onto the University grades structure. This development is expected to bring an end to the ongoing industrial action by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG).

According to the FWSC, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department paid beneficiaries during the January 2025 payment window, marking a significant milestone in the migration process.

Additionally, the Research Allowance top-up has been paid to all Colleges of Education, except for the Akrokerri College of Education, which is being processed.

The FWSC on behalf of the government commended the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Ministry of Finance (MOF), Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD), Ministry of Education (MOE), and National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) for their tireless efforts in addressing the concerns of CETAG.

In light of this progress, the government is urging CETAG to call off the strike and allow normal academic work to resume in the Colleges.

The FWSC has assured CETAG that the government is committed to taking the necessary steps to resolve any post-migration issues that may arise.

The strike, which began on January 2, 2025, was called by CETAG to protest the government’s alleged failure to complete the migration of college of education teaching staff onto the affiliate universities’ pay structure.
