THE MANAGEMENT STAFF OF NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION AUTHORITY (NIA) CALLED ON FWSC OVER STAFF CONDITIONS OF SERVICE ISSUES

Apr 10, 2024

The Management Staff of National Identification Authority (NIA) led by its Executive Secretary, Professor Ken Agyemang Ateffuah has called on the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) over their Staff Conditions of Service demands.
In his opening remarks, the Executive Secretary of National Identification Authority (NIA), Professor Ken Agyemang Ateffuah, indicated that the leadership of Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) with Industrial and Commercial workers Union (ICU) and the general Staff of NIA has issued a possible notification of a strike action.
Professor. Ateffuah, further hinted that if grievances pertaining to the Conditions of Service of the NIA staff are not properly dealt with, the workers will ultimately embark on their strike and this will have dire consequences on the smooth operation of the NIA and its overall mandate.
He, assured that the Management of NIA under his leadership is committed to ensuring grievances of staff are properly addressed. This according to him, would go a long way to improve on the general wellbeing of Staff, since it has the potential to help deliver on the overall mandate of his outfit, regarding the issuance of Ghana Card Registration Nationwide.
On his part, the Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Ing. Benjamin Arthur, emphasized that, he expects that, the Management of NIA, with the leadership of Public Services Workers Union and Industrial and Commercial workers Union (ICU) be candid in their submission to help guide a fruitful negotiation after the meeting.
Ing. Benjamin Arthur, also intimated that the meeting was to set a tone for a broader consultation with interested parties on the rules of engagements on compensation issues so that negotiations can be concluded harmoniously with various parties.
He, however, was quick to caution that, issues of negotiation are usually kept in confidence and, therefore, not supposed to be brought into the public domain or within the media landscape. Ing. Benjamin Arthur, further assured that his outfit will ensure that all the relevant parties would work in harmony on the proposed items submitted by the Staff of NIA for redress. He tasked the ICU representative to outline the concerns raised by the Staff of NIA for negotiation to commence.
The Deputy Chair of the ICU, Mr. Emmanuel Kpako Brown in his response, catalogued their grievances as follows: Renumeration, Conditions of Service, Review of Scheme of Service, Collective Bargaining Agreement, the approval and the Implementation of existing Conditions of Service, since the current one has outlived its usefulness.
He therefore, entreated government through FWSC to endeavour tackling the concerns of the NIA Staff in order to improve their lives. On his part, the Chairman of the PSWU, Mr. Eric Adu Boateng Amoah, pointed out that the essence of the meeting was to help provide relevant insights into the negotiation in order to find lasting solution to their clarion calls.
Present at the function were the Management team of the FWSC, representative from ICU and PSWU.
