FWSC Trains HR Staff from Public Universities on Job Evaluation

The Salary Administration Directorate of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has concluded a 5-day intensive training on job evaluation for Human Resource professionals, Administrators, and Accountants from public universities across the country.
The workshop aimed to equip the 50 participants with the requisite knowledge and practical skills in conducting job evaluation exercises, including job analysis, job description development, and the application of job evaluation methodologies. The training ran from May 18 to May 22, 2026 at the University of Ghana Business School, Legon, under the leadership of Dr George Smith-Graham, Chief Executive and chaired by Dr Baaba Anquandah, Director, Salary Administration.
Speaking at the closing session, Dr. Smith-Graham said this training came at a time when the FWSC was transitioning into the Independent Public Emoluments Commission for which Job Evaluation is an important component in the overall review of the country’s compensation system.
Dr Anquandah stated that “This training is critical for promoting equity, transparency, and fairness in compensation within our public universities,” she further emphasised that “When job evaluation is done correctly, it eliminates disparities, motivates staff, and ensures that pay matches the value of work done.”
Participants were taken through practical sessions on job analysis, job description writing, factor comparison methods, and point rating systems.
Participants said the workshop had improved their capacity to support HR departments in job grading and salary administration. They noted that the hands-on approach would help them implement fairer structures on their campuses.
The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission is mandated to develop and manage a fair, transparent, and sustainable pay system for public service institutions in Ghana.
