The Chief Executive of Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Ing. Benjamin Arthur,  and the Management of National Teaching Council (NTC) on Monday 22nd April, 2024 commenced engagement on the proposed Conditions of Service of NTC staff.

Ing. Benjamin Arthur, who was the Chairman of the meeting asked Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, Registrar of NTC, to brief the team about the mandate and operations of NTC, before zooming into the discussions on Conditions of Service.

Dr. Christian Addai-Poku briefly highlighted some of the activities the National Teaching Council engages in including development of standards for teachers, development of code of conduct for teachers, development of teacher training curriculum, licensing of Professional Teachers, accreditation of Teacher Training Institutions among other functions.

On their Conditions of Service, Dr. Addai-Poku said, 90% of the staff were migrated from the Ghana Education Service (GES), and had been made worse off since some allowances they enjoyed from GES, were no longer available to them. He indicated that NTC had been working without Conditions of Service since its establishment. He then walked the meeting through NTC’s proposed Conditions of Service as requested.

Ing. Arthur in turn also went through NTC’s proposal and highlighted items that were applicable and those that were not applicable for the staff of NTC. He took the opportunity to explain to management the eligibility criteria for existing allowances.

Management of NTC expressed appreciation for the insightful engagement and asked to revert after putting its house in order.
