FWSC Chief Executive Briefs Health Summit On IEC, Job Evaluation Reforms
The Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Dr George Smith-Graham, Tuesday briefed stakeholders at the 2026 Annual Health Summit on two major reforms aimed at strengthening fairness and equity in public sector compensation.
He told policymakers, health professionals, labour leaders and development partners at the event that government is establishing the Independent Emoluments Commission (IEC), and rolling out a National Job Evaluation Exercise to fix pay disparities across the public service.
“The IEC is designed to make public sector pay setting more transparent, equitable, data-driven and sustainable,” Dr Smith-Graham explained.
He also announced a forthcoming nationwide job evaluation exercise to assess every public service job objectively using clear criteria: responsibility, complexity, accountability, skills, and working conditions.
Tying the reforms to the Summit theme “Building a Resilient Workforce to Accelerate the Attainment of Universal Health Coverage”, he said a resilient health system depends on a resilient, motivated and fairly rewarded workforce.
Dr Smith-Graham urged health sector stakeholders to support the reform agenda and maintain professionalism, accountability and innovation in service delivery.
“The Commission remains committed to collaborating with government, organised labour and all stakeholders to build a productive, motivated and resilient public service capable of driving national transformation,” he said.
The Summit brought together health leaders to strategise on building a workforce capable of delivering universal access to healthcare by 2030.
Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang graced the event as Special Guest of Honour.
