FWSC SIGNS 44 NEGOTIATION AGREEMENTS THIS YEAR
The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has announced that it has completed and signed negotiation agreements with 44 unions and institutions this year.
Being the institution with the mandate to negotiate on behalf of the government, the FWSC is at the fulcrum of all wage-and-salary-related negotiations in the public sector.
The Chief Executive of the FWSC, Ing Benjamin Arthur who shared the milestone during a media soiree on November 25, 2024 in Accra said the commission worked closely with unions and institutions to ensure fair compensation for their members.
The negotiations were signed with unions, including the Ghana Medical Association, University Teachers Association, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, and Public Services Workers Union.
“The FWSC has made significant strides in promoting fair wages and salaries in the public sector”, he said.
In addition to the 44 negotiation agreements, Ing. Arthur said the Commission has also successfully implemented the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), harmonising public service salaries and eliminating disparities.
Ing. Arthur pledged to continue engaging with unions and stakeholders to address concerns and promote peaceful labour relations.
Other notable achievements of the FWSC, he said include the migration of seven institutions to the new grade structure, linking pay to productivity, and saving the country GHc345 million through the Nationwide Payroll Monitoring exercise.
Despite these achievements, the FWSC acknowledges the challenges it faces, particularly in the labour front, due to the circumstances of 2024 being an election year.
